At Starcross Primary School, we want every child to feel safe, valued, included and ready to learn. Good attendance and positive behaviour are important foundations for this, helping children to make the most of their time at school, develop positive relationships and achieve their potential.
Our approach to attendance is centred on working in partnership with children and families. We recognise that there can be a range of reasons why attendance may become difficult, and we aim to identify concerns early, understand any barriers and work with families to provide appropriate support. At the same time, regular and punctual attendance is an important responsibility shared by school and families. We monitor attendance carefully and follow clear procedures where concerns arise.
Our approach to behaviour is built on positive relationships, mutual respect and clear expectations. We believe that children need to understand what positive behaviour looks like and be supported to make good choices. We recognise and celebrate children who meet our expectations, while providing consistent responses and opportunities for children to reflect, take responsibility and repair relationships when things go wrong. Our behaviour policy emphasises that children are not defined by their behaviour; instead, we help them understand and learn from the choices they make.
Both our attendance and behaviour approaches are underpinned by our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and caring school community where every child can flourish. We work closely with parents and carers because strong partnerships between home and school make a significant difference to children’s experiences and outcomes.
Our STARS values – Self-awareness, Teamwork, Ambition, Resilience and Success – are central to school life and support children in developing the attitudes and behaviours they need to become confident, responsible and successful learners.
