Intent
At Starcross Primary School, we want every child, regardless of need or barrier, to finish their journey at Starcross with the knowledge that there are different religions and what difference this makes to how they live. This will ensure that all children can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living. All children at Starcross have the right to a broad and balanced curriculum which is rich in learning experiences. Religion and Worldview provides a safe space for young people to develop their understanding of people, cultures, faiths and relationships. It asserts the importance and value of religious education (RE) for all, with on-going benefits for an open and understanding society. We introduce our pupils to a variety of religions/beliefs, by following the Devon and Torbay Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2024-2029, and give them the skills and understanding to consider questions raised by different religions/beliefs. This includes reflecting on their own ideas, attitudes, beliefs and ways of living. From this learning, Religion and Worldview makes a significant contribution to pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, as well as giving opportunities for exploring British and personal values.
