Welcome to our class page! My name is Miss Samuel and I am the class teacher based in Avocets full time. We also have Mrs White who covers my teacher time out of class (Tuesdays from 10.00)

Key information
- PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please come in wearing your PE kit.
- Spelling homework is set on a Friday via Spelling Frame, to be completed by the next Friday
- TTRS is to be completed at least three times a week
- Reading at home should be completed at least 4-5 times a week. The children will receive a certificate once they have read 25,50,75 etc times ta home

WCR – Whole Class Reading
Reading
Our Whole Class Reading focus on a Monday and Friday will be continue to be ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio. A story about a boy named Auggie Pullman, who was born with a facial difference. When he starts school for the first time, he faces challenges with bullying and fitting in- but through kindness, courage, and friendship, he helps others learn to see beyond appearances Our WCR sessions are supported by the Ashely Booth reading scheme and this term, Tuesday-Thursday, we will be looking at texts exploring El Dorado, songs from musicals and many more!

English
In English this term, we will be learning to deepen our understanding of effective sentences, consolidating key grammar knowledge and exploring how grammatical choices shape meaning. We will apply this through character description, using precise vocabulary and sentence structures to add detail and impact, before creating engaging narratives and persuasive writing inspired by South American tales

Maths
We will be learning to develop secure and efficient methods for multiplication and division, using formal written methods to multiply and divide larger numbers and apply these skills to problem-solving. We will then extend our understanding of fractions by multiplying fractions and finding fractions of amounts. Additionally, we will be continuing with the Mastering Number programme, which continues to strengthen fluency, number sense and confidence with calculation.
Geography
We will learn to develop our geographical knowledge of South America by naming and locating its countries and capital cities, identifying key physical and human features, and exploring what life is like in a South American country. We will also compare South America with the UK, developing an understanding of similarities and differences in location, environment and ways of life.
Science
Our Science unit is Animals including humans. We will learn to develop our understanding of animals including humans by exploring the human life cycle, describing the changes that occur from babies to children, through adolescence and puberty, and from adulthood into old age. We will also learn to compare mammals by identifying and understanding differences in gestation periods and lifespans.
D&T
In D&T, we will learn to explore and design structures in D&T by investigating different types of bridges, using simple reinforcement techniques to strengthen a structure, and designing, making and evaluating a model bridge.

PE
Avocets PE days are: Tuesday and Friday. This half term will be focused on Dance (choreographing visually pleasing pieces) and Football.
French
In French this half term, our focus is La Date. We will be learning how to say all the components of the date and have simple conversations about significant dates.

RW
In RW this half term, we will be exploring the key question ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?’

Computing
We are now using a programme called ‘Purple Mash’ to teach computing as well as enhance other subjects. This term our focus will be designing and making our own 3D maze adventure game.
Music
In music, we will be learning to to build rhythmic patterns and grooves and develop an understanding of tempo, texture and style through the unit Época.

PSHE
In PSHE, we use the scheme Jigsaw. This half term, we will be looking at what culture means and how this can sometimes be a source of conflict. They will think about the spreading of rumours and how bullying can be direct or indirect.
