Miss O Godbeer
Welcome to our class page!
Welcome to our class page! My name is Miss Godbeer and I am the class teacher based in Avocets full time. We also have Mrs White who covers my teacher time out of class.
On this page, I will outline what our Autumn Term 2 curriculum looks like. If you have any questions about this or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me; my door is always open. Otherwise, please email admin@starcross-primary.devon.sch.uk
Here is a weekly timetable for Avocets.
Reading
This half term, we will be reading ‘Letters from the Lighthouse’. This book is set during World War 2. It’s a story that is wrapped in mystery, secrecy and suspense. When Sukie goes missing, her brother and sister embark on a remarkable journey to find her. The children are evacuated from London to the countryside and it’s there where young Olive and her brother Cliff will plunge into a mysterious, rollercoaster of an adventure to be reunited with their sister. Twists, turns, coded messages and conflicts prevail in this beautifully pitched story that provides a fine balance between sensitivity and adventure.
English
In English, we will be looking at instruction writing, focusing on using dashes to add emphasis, using model verbs and using commas to clarify meaning or avoid ambiguity. After this unit, we will move onto writing poems based on ‘Bethlehem’ by Carol Ann Duffy. We will focus on the objectives of using conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions to express time, place and cause and linking ideas using adverbials of time or tense choices.

This half term in Maths, we will begin with looking at Multiplication and Division before moving onto Fractions. We will recap our learning everyday using retrieval questions and will have weekly homework set on TTRS and Doodle Maths.

They learn about mechanisms, their uses and how they allow a smaller effort to have a greater effect.
