Miss O Godbeer
Welcome to our class page!
Welcome to our class page! My name is Miss Godbeer and I am the class teacher based in Avocets full time. We also have Mrs White who covers my teacher time out of class.
On this page, I will outline what our Autumn Term 1 curriculum looks like. If you have any questions about this or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact me; my door is always open. Otherwise, please email admin@starcross-primary.devon.sch.uk
Here is a weekly timetable for Avocets.
Reading
This half term, we will be reading ‘Pages & Co – Tilly and the Book Wanderers’. This is a book about an 11-year-old girl called Tilly who has lived with her grandparents since the disappearance of her Mother. Like the rest of her family, Tilly loves nothing more than to escape into the pages of her favourite stories. One day, Tilly realises that classic children’s characters are appearing in the shop through the magic of ‘book wandering’ – crossing over from the page into real life.
English
In English this term, we will be looking at persuasive letter writing, focusing on using modal verbs, relative clauses and how to build cohesion within a paragraph. After this unit, we will move onto story writing based on ‘The Ice Bear’. We will focus on the objectives of using expanded noun phrases to convey complicated information concisely and fronted adverbials.
Maths
This half term in Maths, we will begin by looking at ‘Place Value’ before moving on ‘Addition and Subtraction. We use the White Rose Maths scheme for Maths lessons, as well as daily flashbacks to ensure that previous learning in embedded.
Science
Our Science unit this half term will be Earth and Space. This unit teaches children about our Solar System and its spherical celestial bodies. It will describe the movements of the Earth and the other planets relative to the Sun, the Moon relative to Earth, and the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night.
History
Our History unit this half term will be Dynamic Dynasties which is centred around the history of Ancient China, focusing primarily on the Shang Dynasty, and explores the lasting legacy of the first five Chinese dynasties, some of which can still be seen in the world today.

PE
Avocets PE days are: Mondays and Wednesdays.
