WCR – Whole Class Reading

Reading

We are continuing to read our class book which  is Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy which is an exciting adventure story about the Brightstorm siblings, Arthur and Maudie, who live in a world of daring explorers and dangerous skies. Their father, a famous airship explorer, went missing during a legendary expedition to the South Pole. The siblings are determined to find him, facing perilous storms, rival explorers, and incredible challenges along the way.

Our WCR sessions are supported by the Ashely Booth reading scheme and this term, Tuesday-Thursday, we will be looking at texts exploring changing materials, circuses, novel and many more!

English

In English this term, we will focus on writing suspense stories this term. We will be exploring how authors create tension using short sentences, rhetorical questions and carefully chosen vocabulary. We will also be securing their grammar knowledge, including accurate punctuation, sentence structure and the use of a range of clauses to enhance our writing.

In Maths, we will focus on shape and position this term. We will be exploring the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, including angles, lines and symmetry, as well as describing positions and movements using coordinates, translation and reflection. We will also develop our understanding of turns, directions and the use of grid references.

We will also continue with Mastering Number to build strong confidence and fluency in key number skills.

Children will plan, conduct and evaluate an investigation into thermal insulation. They will also learn how materials are used based on their properties, understand dissolving, and explore ways to separate materials using filtering, sieving and evaporation.
