Welcome to Oystercatchers!
Welcome to our class page! My name is Miss Moulster and I am the class teacher based in Oystercatchers full time. We also have Mrs Trail who covers my teacher time out of class (Thursday afternoon).

Key information
- PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please come in wearing your PE kit.
- Spelling homework is set on a Monday via Spelling Frame, to be completed by the
- TTRS is to be completed at least two times a week as well as reading at least 4-5 times a week
- Children are expected to read at home at least 4-5 times a week. Reading records will be checked on a Friday morning.
Here is a weekly timetable for Oystercatchers. This term our topic is ‘Our Wonderful World’.

Reading
The class enjoyed reading The Bad Beginning so much last term that we are now reading the next book in the series – The Reptile Room. When we finish this, our class book will be Grimwood by Nadia Shireen, a hilarious book about British wildlife! Our WCR sessions are supported by the Ashely Booth reading scheme and this term, Tuesday-Thursday, we will be looking at texts exploring rocks and fossils, classics, novels, weather, natural disasters and Mary Anning.

English
In English this term, our text is called ‘Eruption’, which is a focus on journey stories. Our key objectives will be to:
- Use apostrophes for possession and contraction.
- Writing in past tense.
- Use inverted commas for direct speech.
- Using a or an correctly.
- Using figurative language to set the scene.
Maths
This half term in Maths, our focus will be money, time, shape and statistics. We use the White Rose Maths scheme for Maths lessons, as well as daily flashbacks to ensure that previous learning is embedded. We also have a times table focus every afternoon to build fluency.

Geography
In Geography, we will be exploring how we can feel the Earth’s wrath through natural disasters. We learn about how and why natural disasters occur, including how they are becoming more frequent with climate change. We will also compare the UK to countries where natural disasters are more common.
Science
In Science, we will be learning about rocks, fossils and soils. We will investigate different types of rocks and how they are formed. We will also investigate how fossils are formed and why soil is important.
Art
In Art, we will be exploring the work of J.W.M. Turner to create our own watercolour paintings depicting scenes of natural disasters. Children will work to develop their control of the brush and their technique with paint.
PE
Oystercatchers’ PE days are: Monday and Thursday. This half term’s focus will be dance and Dartmoor 3 Ball.

Computing
In Computing this half term, pupils will begin to explore block coding through Purple Mash. They will start to think about cause and effect as well as the logical processes behind how computers work.

French
In French this half term, our focus is “les legumes”. By the end of the unit pupils will be able to name 10 different vegetables in French and also say what they would like to buy.
RW
In RW this half term, we will be exploring the key question ‘How and why do people try to make the world a better place?’
PSHE
In PSHE, we use the scheme Jigsaw. This half term, we will be looking at ‘Changing Me’. This will explore how our bodies change both inside and outside as we grow up and also what we can do to keep ourselves clean and healthy.
