Welcome to the Sandpipers Class Page! We are Mrs Squance and Mrs White and we teach the Sandpipers children here at Starcross Primary School. Mrs Squance teaches on Monday and Tuesday and Mrs White on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
All the adults in the Sandpipers class feel so fortunate to support children entering their first year at Starcross Primary School! We pride ourselves on a strong transition which ensures the children settle quickly and grow in confidence and independence whilst being happy life, long learners.
We teach the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Our children learn through our carefully designed continuous provision activities, and have the opportunity to explore and investigate based on their own interests in our many zones of learning (construction, art, home corner, writing station, book corner, sand, water and messy play for example)! We enjoy our time together inside and outside the classroom in our areas, as well as the playground and the nature area.
Summer 1
At Starcross Primary School, we use a thematic approach to our learning.
Across EYFS, our topics this term are ‘Sunshine & Sunflowers’ and ‘Shadows & Reflections.’
‘Sunshine & Sunflowers’ This seasonal project provides opportunities for outdoor learning and teaches children how to care for the plants and animals in their local environment and how to stay safe in the sun. ‘Shadows & Reflections’ This project teaches children about natural phenomena, including shadows, reflections and echoes. They explore how shadows are formed and how they can change.
