Intent
At Starcross Primary School, we want all pupils, regardless of need or barrier, to develop a passion for exploring and understanding the digital world. From everyday technology to coding, data, and digital safety, we aim to equip children with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a digital society.
At Starcross Primary School, we want all pupils, regardless of need or barrier, to develop a passion for exploring and understanding the digital world. From everyday technology to coding, data, and digital safety, we aim to equip children with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a digital society.
We seek to foster curiosity, problem-solving, and computational thinking, helping children understand how digital systems work, how information is created, shared, and protected, and how technology impacts our lives and the wider world. Through a rich and progressive Computing curriculum, pupils develop practical skills, knowledge, and confidence in a variety of digital tools and technologies.
We value hands-on learning and practical application. Pupils engage with coding, multimedia projects, robotics, and online collaborative tools, making connections between technology and the real world. By building on prior knowledge each year, we aim to nurture motivated, resourceful, and digitally literate learners.
Implementation
Computing is taught through project-based blocks across three half-terms per academic year, enabling pupils to achieve depth and progressively develop skills.

- EYFS: Children explore technology in everyday life, use digital tools to record and present learning, and develop early problem-solving skills.
- KS1: Pupils begin coding, understand algorithms, and develop digital literacy. They use multimedia tools, explore data representation, and learn about responsible technology use locally and globally.
- KS2: Children extend coding and computational thinking, work with robotics and simulations, analyse and present digital information, and engage in collaborative projects. They explore the ethical and responsible use of technology while building on prior knowledge and tackling new challenges.
Impact
By the time pupils leave Starcross, they will:
By the time pupils leave Starcross, they will:
- Confidently use computing vocabulary and concepts.
- Apply computational thinking to solve problems creatively.
- Use digital tools to collect, analyse, and communicate information effectively.
- Understand the impact of technology on society and make responsible digital choices.
- Communicate and present their learning confidently, individually and collaboratively.
- Be prepared to continue developing digital skills in secondary education and beyond.
