Here at Starcross Primary, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum through our own bespoke programme which has been designed to deliver outstanding learning opportunities for our children building their knowledge and skills, year on year.
We have created a thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 primary national curriculum to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our curriculum provides a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of children’s learning. We believe children learn better when they face engaging contexts and are encouraged to make links between subjects as well as with prior learning. Children pose questions based on their topic to inspire them to develop their knowledge alongside being taught progressive, subject-specific skills.
Enquiry questions have been posed under whole-school overarching themes that change each half term. This curriculum design enables whole-school collaboration and celebration of learning and also brings children back to previous learning every year, to remind them of what they know and then build on the knowledge and skills that they possess. Focus weeks have been included to allow for an in-depth study to take place each half term of an alternative subject to the topic driver.
We have carefully curated a range of resources and schemes as well as in-house-designed units:
· Maths is delivered through units from the White Rose Maths scheme
